This Baluchi Namakdaan is a traditional salt bag dating back to the 1950s. This remarkable piece of craftsmanship, with distinctive features, showcases a beautiful rug piece on its front and delicate tapestry and weft-wrapping, known as "Pich-Bafi," on the back. In the nomadic communities of Baluchistan, these bags had a clever double role. The ones with broader openings were exclusively meant for carrying salt for their herds. Meanwhile, bags featuring narrower openings were set aside for the nomads' personal use, creating a clear division of purpose and ensuring that the salt for their animals and their own consumption remained separate.
